On April 18, 2011 we all suffered a great loss when Officer Eric "EZ" Zapata from Kalamazoo Department Public Safety was killed in the line of duty. He dedicated his life to serving the people of Kalamazoo and preserving the safety of our community. To honor Eric and his legacy the Eric Zapata Memorial Foundation  (EZMF) was created to fund and maintain a law enforcement scholarship.  In 2012, EZMF created the first annual  EZ5K Memorial Run/Walk which hosted over 650 participants. Donations and sponsorships from this event are used to maintain a scholarship fund for students enrolled in law enforcement programs at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Grand Rapids Community College.

The Second Annual EZ Memorial Run/Walk presented by Norman Camera will be April 20th 2013. The 5K race will take place at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) beginning at 7:00am. At the conclusion of the event there will be a reception for the runners, families, guests and a presentation of awards. Become a corporate sponsor for EZ.
